In this post we discuss how to repair a corrupted Windows 10 with In place upgrade install of Windows 10 – with no loss of data and programs.

Re-installing Windows 10 is often the best solution for when unusual problems are seen. If you are experiencing problems, such as lock-ups, blue-screens, boot errors, or general system instability, or you just prefer a fresh start, this guide will assist you in doing that.

So what happens to my files?

  • You get a clean installation of the Windows operating system
  • You may choose to keep or remove applications and settings (you will be prompted on that)
  • You will retain all your personal files

At the end of this process you will have a refreshed installation of Windows 10, with your desktop programs, apps (optional), and settings intact. This “in-place upgrade install” can provide a quick and effective fix for many, many Windows problems and issues. I often use this technique myself, particularly when I notice that a system is starting to misbehave yet proves resistant to the known basic repair methods.

Begin the In Place Upgrade:

Preparation: I recommended you first disable (or preferrably un-install) any Anti-virus utility before continuing the steps below:

1. Sign in to an administrator account in Windows 10.

2. If you have not already, you will need to disable or un-install any 3rd party AV or security program you have installed first to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade to Windows 10. You can reinstall it after Windows 10 has finished installing.

3. To do a repair install of Windows 10 with Media Creation Tool

Do not use the Media Creation Tool to do a repair install with if you have an older build of Windows 10 installed and wish to retain it since the Media Creation Tool will not include support for older builds. You will be upgraded to the latest build provided by the Media Creation Tool.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to go to Microsoft, and click/tap on the bottom Download tool now button at Microsoft’s site.
